Their limitless dedication and drive has inspired me and instilled a greater sense of hope and belief that working together great changes can be made. However, I am most thankful for spending a summer among such an amazing group of people. Experiencing, first-hand, the ability of the law to have an immediate impact on marginalized members of the community was an invaluable and truly motivating experience. I was able to participate in legal advice clinics, attend legal workshops and immerse myself in the mechanisms of law for a European Union member state. When I got the opportunity to travel to Ireland and work in an NGO that does so much work with human rights, I was ecstatic. The goal of my law career has always been to enter the policy sector focusing on international human rights. William Sampson Fellowship Of her experience, Kate says 'It was a privilege to work alongside a group of US attorneys, academics and law students who were passionate about converting visions of a socially just society into concrete campaigns for change. Finally, Kate had the chance to join UW law students during their summer quarter evening lectures. Here Kate particularly focused on the practice and procedure of filing amicus curiae briefs in the US. She also spent one day a week conducting legal research under the guidance of Professor Walter J Walsh of the University of Washington School of Law. Kate worked with Washington Appleseed over the summer on a research project which aimed to examine disproportionate rates of criminality and incarceration amongst former foster youth.
